Headshot Portraits
July 11, 2024
Sometimes, I get interesting requests for headshot photography. Recently, a group from an online security firm reached out. They had a unique idea for their corporate portraits. They wanted portraits that were almost unrecognizable, set against a dark background.

The aim was to create a mysterious look. These headshots would help their search for a hacker. They needed something that would not reveal too much yet still show the person's presence. I understood the challenge. It was not just about taking a picture but about crafting a mood.

To capture the essence of Full Low Key photography, I used minimal light. This style creates deep shadows and highlights the face's shape. The goal was to create a striking image while keeping the subject's identity somewhat hidden.

As I set up the shots, I focused on the subjects' expressions. Their faces were to convey emotion without giving everything away. It was a dance between light and shadows—a balance of visibility and obscurity.

We adjusted the lighting carefully. A soft light illuminated just enough of their features, while the rest faded into darkness. Each click of my camera captured a blend of professional and enigmatic. The resulting images truly reflected their work environment and goals.

In Brussels, where I often work, this style can bring a unique edge to business portraits. It’s not just about looking good; it’s about telling a story. Each headshot becomes a part of the larger narrative.

When clients come to me with special requests like this, I embrace the challenge. It pushes me to think differently and creates something fresh. It's rewarding to see how a simple headshot can transform into a powerful image.

In the end, these portraits fit perfectly for their needs. They were striking and memorable, leaving a lasting impression. Whether for a corporate setting or a creative project, I enjoy exploring different styles and ideas in headshot photography. Each project teaches me something new and inspires me to keep pushing the boundaries.

After visiting their offices I told them the headshots were no problem, but shooting a large group of 50 people in such a small space with low ceilings could be a problem.

I proposed to shoot the individual headshots, and shoot small group pictures in the same room. These groups were manipulated into one long group, but it was to long for the banner, so in the we came up with this image, fitting their homepage. The black and white choice was mine to, so no styling or make up had to be done, and it makes just a great diverse but professional group of consultants, don't you think?
